Affordable Carpet Prices

Carpet prices vary greatly, ranging from $2 a square foot for the most inexpensive type of carpeting, to almost $100 per square foot for the custom carpet or high-end carpet. As you can see, there are many carpet prices in the middle, so on average, for a quality carpet you can expect to pay at least $19 to $38 per square foot. That is about $300 to $600 for an average sized room.

If in the carpet prices it is not already included, you have to add on $2.50 to $6 per square foot for the padding that goes beneath your carpet. If you are offered free padding in your carpet price you want to inspect the padding thoroughly because they may be passing off a cheaper padding which will decrease the life of your carpet. Also not usually included in your total carpet price is the installation. On average the carpet prices for installation range from $2 to $6 per square foot for most of the residential carpets. Carpet prices do not include labor that it will cost to move furniture so you need to add on another $1 to $2 per square yard for removing the existing carpet and moving your furniture to do it. Add on $1 to $2 for disposing of your old carpet and $1 to $2 more per square yard for the installation of Berber carpet.

Carpet prices may come with installation included. You may want to look for your own installer if this is the case because you may have some significant savings with using their installation. Make sure you find out exactly what carpet prices they are charging you for installation on top of the carpet price itself.
